"Life is partly what we make of it, and partly what is made by the friends we chose" -Tennessee Williams

I only find it appropriate to open this post by a quote of Tennessee Willliams (birthplace Columbus, MS) while I am here for a week. There is only so much to do while in the booming metropolis of Columbus and I have exhausted the new episodes on Shark Week, re runs of Everybody Loves Raymond and the Nanny. Now I have come to old shoe boxes and photo albums, cleaning and taking a trip down memory lane. The remaining post is mostly for my own enjoyment to look back and laugh on the goods times. I started to write down these memories in a journal but was then reminded that I write like a 5th grade boy. My journey begins one glorious fall day in first grade. The day I met my best friend Anna--- I am thinking it was more of a forced friendship (thanks Mom and Mrs. Terri). There are only so many people who want to be your friend when you have a bowl cut and wear brownie uniforms and Bees Tees to school. Most of the memories from elementary school seem a bit fuzzy-- of course except for when Kat threw up on Huntley's shoes during book reading hour. I still don't think I could eat the orange peanut butter crackers to this day. We were all so excied to go outside and play on the big tires and get a day of recess because the room smelled so bad! Then the remaining years-- getting to read in the bathtub in the 3rd grade classroom, being responsible for our teacher going into premature labor in 5th grade because our class caused so much stress! There are not many 5th graders that can say they had 8 teachers because noone would come back to teach our class... this should have tipped em off at an early age. The endless weddings between Kathleen, Catherine, Parker, Huntley and whoever else they felt like marrying on that particular recess. And 6th grade Anna, Bean, and I getting kicked out of the "cool group." Does anyone know if that website is still up and running? Those of you who think the mean girls movie is funny... well lets just say that was our grade! Needless to say ammends were made shortly thereafter.

Now time to put elementary school behind and head to the huge high school of Heritage Academy. Who can forget my sweet haircut!? Why I ever thought it was wise to tell the lady to do what she wants and it will grow back... lesson learned... only say this if you want to look like Carol Brady at age 12. Oh and the great memories of this year-- from the mouse that was lose in the locker room, before the 1st basketball game when Kady hit the floor after having a basketball coming at her head at about 20 mph and who can forget our "dress up parties" at Beanny's house! I will keep these photos hiden... for the rest of my life. The important question here is why did Bean have some of those hideous clothes! I remember a pretty sweet outfit of Kat in snakeskin pants.... and how many times could be possibly watch the 6th Sense and Superstar and binge eat at Bean's house. And then 9th grade.... start of some great times. Lyndsi, Anna and I going to watch a Walk to Remember..... or not. Why we ever thought mom and dad would actually check our movie stubs beats me... could have saved on some cash. And the best memories of summer after sophomore year of high school. Getting up bright and early for the same daily routine. Lyndsi and I would coat ourselves in afrosheen hair spray at lay out at the pool while watching her grandparents restaurant next door. First time we saw a group of cute boys walk in it was determined lunch time! And sitting in her room texting Adam from her phone... when all along it was apparently Brian and myself texting.. foundation of all quality high school relationships! Easter Sunday at Lyndsi's house.... Kat, Anna, Kady, Lyndsi, and myself... pretty sure we will all forever remember fun times had then. Of course also going to church with Lyndsi every Sunday of this summer and the air freshner fight Andrew, Brian, Lyndsi and I got in. Some great memories were had just sorry that you aren't here anymore to share then with us Lyndsi! You will always be missed. Of course who can forget jetting around ridge road in the red bug singing.. or shall I say screaming at the top of our lungs. Oh and how can I forget to mentioned prom sophomore year... Kat and Anna I am thinking the writter of Big Daddy did not intend for the newspaper scene to be taken to heart however I think our little rendition worked just fine for the night. 16th Birthday getting kidnapped-- thanks guys. Kidnap-- I never want to hear fry like bacon while on the Wal Mart parking lot have the smell of sour milk and sardines around me EVER again. Enough said.

Whoever said you shouldn't live with your best friend from high school was mistaken because I think it worked out just great. There were some great dorm dance parties that year! And how many times did I eat sonic blasts and McDonald's ice cream cones.... SICK. And yes we did on MANY occassions get an ice cream cone and actually drive across town to the other McDonalds because they just aren't all that large. Why did we gain freshman 15... no not beer.. MCDONALDS.
I will have to recap the rest of the college grad school years another time, I have come to the end of my scrapbooks. As stated by Tennessee Williams "Life is partly what we make of it, and partly what is made by the friends we chose." Well I think throughout my 23 years of life I have been shaped greatly by my friends--- so you guys are to blame for me turning out the way I did. I love you guys and miss you all very much. Christmas time we need another reunion!!! Sayonara.

  1. I LOVE THIS BLOGPOST!!! What a fantastic way to start off your blog! Just keep mentioning my name, that's "Kat" or "Kathleen" just whatever you prefer. You can even throw "Diddy" in there, that's fine.
But seriously, I love you to pieces roomie. You, Anna, Kady, Bean - y'all are my family. Unlike Anna, I WOULD jump in front of a car for you over Henry (that "smaller chance of survival" is BS).
LOVE LOVE LOVE! HAVE A BLAST in the land down under. Bring me some TimTams.
